It’s been nearly a year since Flying Fish has produced a new Exit beer. If you remember Exit 9, Hoppy Scarlet Ale, was released close to this time last year. Exit 8, Chestnut Brown Ale, should be ready for an early March launch.

Here is the description: Straight from Flying Fish

Exit 8 – Chestnut Brown Ale

The long-delayed eighth stop on our multi- year trip brings us to, coincidentally, Exit 8 and celebrates what puts the “Garden” in Garden State.

To celebrate Exit 8, one of our big farming areas, we’ve brewed a beer that uses a lost local ingredient: chestnuts–and a popular current one: local honey. This full-bodied hybrid Belgian-style brown ale brings forward a nutty character from the chestnuts, accented by the flavors of honey, roasted barley and oat flakes. There’s a nice spiciness from the Mt. Rainier hops while Chinooks add a touch of pine. Fuggles and Columbus round out the hop profile.

Exit 8 pairs perfectly with hearty foods like roast pork, sausages or a nice aged gouda. Bottled conditioned, 8.3% abv

Spoiler Alert: This Wednesday, February 22, the Standard Tap in Northern Liberties will be tapping a firkin of the Exit 8 at 6pm.

Hope to see some of you there!

Cheers,

Sean and I have been kicking this around for a little bit now, and we feel that 2012 is the year to do it!

We want to start/form a Bottle Sharing/Trading Club. We are taking this club seriously. So, the beer needed to partake will have to be up to snuff!

The goal will be to meet once a month at different locations throughout Philly, BuxCo, and MontCo to allow as many people to partake as possible. It will also allow for bar owners and local brewers to partake as well.

If you are interested please comment on this thread and make sure you sign up with your email address for us to contact you. More Info will follow!

We look forward to seeing and sharing a brew with you soon!

Cheers,

Here at the Big Beer Guy we are huge football fans. What makes football better than some beers? Well every Sunday while watching your favorite team destroy the competition; you can destroy the opposing teams city-state beer. Every week The Big Beer Guy is going to preview local games. Kevin and most of our readers are Eagles fans. I’m the transplant from North Jersey who is a Giants fan (Ok stop booing me). If there are other teams you would like us to preview hit us up. We will also be hosting a BBG tasting during the Giants/Eagles game with a friendly bet…

Each week will have three categories 1. Session beers: these are easily obtainable at your local distributor 2. Imperial: mid range bottles were you might have to drive to bottle shop to get 3. Bourbon – not necessarily a bourbon beer but a beer that you might take awhile to get so plan ahead for a trade.

Week 1

Philadelphia Eagles vs St. Louis

1. Session: Everybody loves St. Louis finest Budweiser . There are many beers to choose from Bud Light/ Lime / Ice / Chelada. I guess only if the eagles are losing folks….

2. Imperial: Sclafly can be found in New Jersey (Canals Hamilton) and New York. They have a few different reserve series bottles that receive high grades on beer advocate and also a tripel that is rated well.

Urban Chestnut is a new brewery that is popping up in and around Philly. Zwickel is an easy drinking keller bier that is great with BBQ.

3. Bourbon: Well as you can tell St.Louis is a not the easiest city to beer pair, so we are going to venture to Boulevard Brewing company . These highly rated brewery beers are on ebay or trade only. Tank 7 and double wide Ipa have been on my want list for a long time.

New York Giants vs Washington Redskins

Here is what I will be drinking

1. Session: Flying Dog Raging Bitch: one of my faviorite brews from the dog brewery. The beer has lots of hop-forward qualities. Mostly pineapple with some banana sweetness. Sneaky drinkable at 8.3 % .

2. Imperial: Pick this up at my favorite bar Humeville Inn Stillwater 25 to one:A Beligan Strong Dark . Hey I know its from Baltimore I need an excuse to open this badboy.

3. Bourbon: Breaking this bad boy out of the celler another Flying Dog beer Dog Schwartz…God I love smoked beers.

Cheers and Be safe

Sean

Don’t forget to check Beermenus.com for beers near u …………….
